Indian Clubs is a form of exercise. They were very popular in Europe and the USA starting in the 1860s until about 1930. Club swinging featured twice in the Olympics. Club swinging originates from Iran and India. Club and Mace exercise is a preparation for wrestling and combat. The club is one of the earliest known weapons of attack and defence.

The Mace (Gada) is a traditional piece of training equipment in Hindu physical culture. It is common in the of north India. The strength and skill level of the athlete determine the weight of the Mace used. A mace swung behind the back is builds grip strength and shoulder endurance.

Expert use of these powerful weapons was the chief ambition of everyone in ancient times.

Stamina infusing properties of clubs and mace.

Warriors and laymen were able to wield clubs for hours and even days on end, and this fact alone demonstrates the stamina infusing properties of the club, whether during times of conflict or to enhance the quality of their daily lives.

Both Indian Clubs and Mace (Gada), are a great way to increase your upper body, awareness, strength and range of motion.

I am a great fan of swinging Indian Clubs and the Mace for exercise, researching and studying old books and manuals, has played a major part in my re-discovery of these ancient arts. I actively train with Indian Clubs, Gada (Mace), Jori and Persian Mil.

Indian Clubs World Tour

Indian Clubs | Paul Taras WolkowinskiStarting in 2013 I decided to start travelling the world, every year to research, learn, teach and share my knowledge. My tours have taken me to South Korea, USA, United Kingdom, Finland, Denmark, Germany, Poland, Iran and India.

One of my aims is to seek out places in the world where ancient forms of club swinging are still practised, like Persian Mils (Clubs) from Iranian Zurkhaneh and Indian Jori Clubs and Gada (Mace) from India.
